Atlanter (Atlas) 1998

A permanent commission for a public housing/restaurant area, Norra Hamnen, Helsingborg, Sweden. Atlanter refers to the name of the male pillars in a Greek temple that hold up the building, visually as well as practically. The piece is both monumental and not, he is in a monumental scale, but he is transparent as well. (You can se the picture from both sides.) The piece is about structures in society and at the same time about a private and physical sphere. Atlanter was also made as a temporary public work 2002 in Fargo, North Dakota, USA.
